Questions and answers
How much does a website cost?
There is no single answer: the cost depends on the required functionality, number of pages, graphics and whether you prepare the content yourself. I can give an initial estimate after we establish the general requirements.
There are no surprises: before the main work starts, I aim to agree the scope and price as precisely as possible. A simple website with basic functionality usually costs a few hundred EUR/USD.
I am interested. Where do I start?
Start by clarifying your expectations. What should the website do? Is it local, nationwide or international? Is it a business card, a full presentation of your offer, or an online shop? Then consider how much time and money you want to spend.
Once you have that information, simply get in touch. I advise on every stage, including server choice, domain registration and search visibility.
I am starting from scratch. What do I need to get online?
For a website to be visible online, it must be placed on a server, so you need a hosting service. Prices vary greatly.
You will also usually need to register a domain - your web address, such as www.company.com. Registrars often discount the first year, while renewals usually cost more.
Then there is the cost of designing and building the website. I can advise you on all of these points.
How can we communicate to discuss the details?
We can agree everything by email; this has worked hundreds of times over the years and is not an obstacle.
Why fix HTML and CSS errors if the website works well?
For three reasons. First, search engines do not favour pages with many errors, so fixing them may improve your visibility in search results. Second, errors can cause display problems in different browsers, computers and phones. Third, they can slow down page loading. Removing them, together with other optimisation work, makes the site faster - especially important on mobile or slower connections.
How can my website appear higher in search results?
A website’s position depends on many factors. Some come from build quality: well-structured code, standards compliance, sensible keywords, loading speed and structured data.
Sometimes professional SEO is needed. Be cautious with offers that “guarantee” first place. It is also worth remembering that people increasingly find products and services through AI. The broad principle remains the same: provide high-quality, specific content that answers the questions your potential customers ask.
Who keeps the copyright to the website?
Once the website is completed, all copyright is transferred to the client, who may use all elements - graphics, code and content - freely, unless we agree otherwise. I do not lock anyone into my ecosystem.
I have some great photos. Can I use them on my website?
Yes, provided you do not infringe copyright. Photos found online without a licence clearly allowing free use cannot be published legally.
Photos you have taken yourself, for example of your company’s premises, can be used without concern. If in doubt, I can help find images with appropriate licences.
Which email service is best?
It depends on what matters most to you. If you already have a Google account and value convenience and security, Gmail can be a good choice. Using Gmail with your own domain requires Google Workspace, but it is not a privacy-focused option.
For privacy, Proton Mail, Tuta and Fastmail are good alternatives. A custom domain also requires a paid plan. I personally use Fastmail (this link gives you 10% off the first year).
Standard hosting accounts often include email too. They need to be configured correctly, and I can help with that.
